However, without an online presence your business is missing out on the largest exposure to a worldwide audience, exposure that can lead to brand recognition and potentially leads and customers.
It’s important to spend time regularly on tasks that will make your company excel and stand out from the crowd.
Think about this, without knowing how amazing your business is at providing what it offers, why would a new client choose your business over others?
There are many free and low cost methods for increasing your online presence, all will require you to invest some time. To get you started I have listed my top 10 favourite free online marketing methods below….ENJOY!
1. Guest Blog
Make a list of non-competing businesses that share the same target market you are trying to reach. Once you have done this, get in touch regarding contributing to their company blog, this will position you as knowledgeable in your industry as well as extend your network reach to a new customer segment.
2. Word of mouth / Referrals
According to a Nielson study on consumer trust in advertising, 84% of people trust recommendations from friends and family over any other source. Make sure you are producing results that will leave customers telling everybody in their lives whether it be family, friends or colleagues, about what you provide.
Networking is a good opportunity to meet new people and reach out to other businesses. It’s also a form of advertising as it allows you to talk about your business, how you may help others and how you might be able to collaborate. You never know….the next time that person you spoke to meets someone in need of what you provide, they may just think of you.
4. Social Media
Social Media is a powerful tool, its abilities are too vast to go into in this blog post, however I will tell you that building and maintaining a Social Media presence in 2018, is a must! Build communities, share news, connect with clients and others within your industry, build your brand, converse with others, share content, build relationships, spread the word about your offerings……….this list can go on and on so I’ll leave it there.

It’s one of my favorite methods for raising brand awareness. Implementing a strong content marketing strategy can be time consuming, however can lead to your long-term digital marketing success!
6. Pick up the phone
Most people would much rather get their teeth pulled out than cold call people. However, if done correctly can prove rather rewarding. Remember, the worst thing that can happen is your situation staying the same….not so bad really, might as well.
7. Get Listed
Make sure you are listed on all the main online local directories such as Yell, Thomson, Yelp, Scoot, HotFrog and regional ones such as CreativeHertfordshire as well as industry directories such as ThePlumberDirectory for plumbers. This can assist your website rankings and Google and Bing’s search algorithms likes when you do this.
8. Public Relations (PR)
A good PR strategy can contribute to the success of new and small business. At the very least, a good PR strategy will let people know that your company exists and what you provide. Even after a purchase has been made, a good, strong message can turn a one-time shopper into a returning customer and referrer.
9. Email Marketing
Email Marketing is a good way of communicating with prospects and customers. It is a good way of ensuring you remain at the forefront of your prospects and customers minds for when the time comes that they need your service or product.
